Author update — August 2026: This preprint is an earlier stage in a research program that has since developed along two distinct lines. The next version of this record (v3) will be From Analogy to Warrant: When May Social Science Borrow from Quantum Theory? It recasts the project as a philosophy and methodology paper addressing the conditions under which structural borrowing from quantum theory into social inquiry is epistemically warranted, with QCM serving as the principal case study. A separate paper, From Analogy to Analysis: The Quantum-Continuity Model and Discontinuous Change in World Politics, develops QCM as an International Relations theory and applies the reconstructed framework to comparative political analysis. It will be posted separately.
